Not All Wisdom Teeth Require Extraction

When people think of wisdom tooth, the first thoughts that come to mind are pains and aches. And of course, as the folklore goes – finally you are wiser! However, the pain is no folklore if the tooth is not fully grown. However, not all wisdom teeth require extraction if they are:
- Healthy
- Grown out completely
- Positioned correctly and in line with the opposite tooth
- Able to be cleaned as part of daily hygiene practices
However, wisdom teeth – the third molars at the very back of the mouth – may not always grow out completely. This may be due to the mouth and the jaw not being large enough for the tooth to come out. This results in the tooth embedded in the jaw, or partial growth of the wisdom. In the last case, the teeth allow for a potential cavity, aches, and decay. Orthodontists usually recommend for the tooth be removed to ensure that the other teeth are not shifted, reduce pain, and so forth. Below is a checklist to know whether to remove your wisdom teeth or not:
- Pain
- Repeated infection of soft tissue behind the lower last tooth
- Damage to nearby teeth
- Inflamed gums
- Sinus issues
- Tooth decay
