FAQs
What happens at your dental visit?
At Dr Paul’s, there are 2 processes that we follow for your routine dental visits. The first one is a check-up or examination which is followed by cleaning, or oral prophylaxis. We will first check for cavities. X-rays might be taken to detect cavities between your teeth. We will also check for plaque and tartar. After this, we will check your gums with a special tool to measure the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums. Healthy gums have shallow spaces while diseased gums make the spaces deeper. We will closely examine your tongue, throat, face, head, and neck to look for any signs of swelling, redness, or possible signs of cancer. Then we do the scaling process to clean your teeth of the tartar build-up, followed by polishing to remove surface stains. The final step is flossing to ensure that the areas between your teeth are clean.
What is the ideal oral care home routine?
Good dental health gives you a healthy mouth, teeth and gums and will enhance your appearance and quality of life. Follow these to ensure good oral hygiene at home:
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
- Make sure you use toothpaste that contains fluoride.
- Floss daily.
- Use a mouthwash to help control plaque bacteria.
What you should do between each dental visit?
Follow good oral hygiene practices between regular dental visits. You can remove plaque by brushing and flossing regularly.
How often should you go to the dentist?
Have you ever wondered why the American Dental Association and your dentist recommend you come back every six months? It’s because regular dental visits are essential for the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums. And in between those examinations, it’s important that you work to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy. If you need additional help, your dentist may even suggest more frequent visits.
